Dr. Hamed al-Attiya: Mr. Abdullah bin Hamed al-Attiya is the Arab nationalist man whose worth has been shown and importance recognized. He said about himself: "I spent a third of my life in Iraq, and the rest in Arab and foreign countries as a student, employee, and escaping from the tyranny and oppression of rulers. More than once they asked me: Are you really Iraqi? And I would respond with a question: Dont you find it strange? Their response would be: You dont have the same harsh temperament as Iraqis, as the image of an Iraqi in the minds of Arabs is associated with fiery temper, quick anger, oppression, and foolishness, and other qualities that indicate a tendency towards violence. The strongest evidence they used for this negative description was the Al Rahab Palace massacre in which members of the Hashemite royal family were killed in the middle of the last century. Now, after news of the mass killings of innocent civilians through bombings, executions, and slaughter, who dares to demand proof from them? Since my birth, Iraq has been killing me, year after year. I have not lived a year of my life without some sort of tragedy. All I remember from my childhood are things of terror: during the day, terror from relatives who were out to harm you to the point of death, and at night, terror from the hidden creatures that lurked behind the shadows of the lantern light. My father rescued me from the terror of the countryside only to throw me into the terror of Adel School, where students were tortured under the guise of education and discipline. The only memory I have from that barren year is the terror of the school directors crooked cane and his daughters suicide. At my mothers insistence, my father returned me to our small town in the south, where Iraqi slaughter awaited me. That summer, the July 14th coup took place, and just as they replaced the monarchy with a republic, my father transformed from a tribal leader to a landowner, and I paid the price. It pleased the great communist militant "Al-Jumaili," who was a teacher in my elementary school, to place a hangmans noose around my neck during the morning assembly to announce to everyone- teachers and students alike- that the fate of landowners and their children was hanging. I was ten years old at the time, and communist Iraq was killing me every day after monarchical Iraq had done so on multiple occasions. Once the school year ended, my father packed his bags and fled to Baghdad to avoid the mockery of his tribe members, who once kissed his hand and were now demonstrating in front of his house calling for the hanging of all landowners in Baghdad. The urban ogre (and I dont mean civilized) of Baghdad awaited me to mock me every day because of my southern accent and obedient behavior. If the children of Baghdad were so harsh, it is no wonder that their children today are at the forefront of the slaughter. I hated school, where you have no friends and only hear mocking words steeped in poison. Only the word "jaa" with the heavy "jee" pronunciation from the people of the south stuck in my mind, and it was not Shawkat or Bahjat or Nasrat al-Baghdadi- whose mother still wore a Turkish headscarf until the 1970s with her "bajiyat"- who knew that the language of southern Iraqis (which is actually a language, not just a dialect) is the richest among all contemporary Arab dialects in terms of vocabulary, so much so that even Arabic language experts may struggle to understand its meanings. This was proven in my book about the Shamieh city, the Deputy Prime Minister of Qatar was born in 1952 and obtained a bachelors degree from Alexandria University - Arab Republic of Egypt in 1976.
