Dr. Tawfik Youssef Ali Yusuf Al-Mitaayesh (Tawfik Al-Waaee) is one of the prominent figures in the Muslim Brotherhood movement in Egypt, Kuwait, and the world. He was a professor of Dawa (Islamic preaching) and the head of the Creed and Dawa department at the Faculty of Shariah at Kuwait University. He was born in 1930 in Dakahlia Governorate and grew up in the village of "Damas" in the Mit Ghamr district, then moved to Mit Ghamr and settled there. He worked as an imam and preacher there before traveling to Kuwait in 1972. Education: He graduated from Al-Azhar University and was appointed immediately after graduation. He obtained a Masters degree in Innovation and Masalih Al-Mursalah (permissible benefits) with distinction and honors in 1978. He obtained a Ph.D. in Islamic Civilization compared to Western Civilization with distinction and first-class honors in 1984. In 1992, he earned the title of assistant professor, and later, in 2000, he became a professor at the Faculty of Shariah. Positions: He served as a member and researcher in the Encyclopedia of Islamic Jurisprudence in Cairo in 1969. He was a member of the National Islamic Conference, the Front of Azhar Scholars, and the International Union of Muslim Scholars. He also served as a member and researcher in the Jurisprudential Encyclopedia in Kuwait and chairman of the Committee for the Development of Islamic Education Curricula at the Ministry of Education in Kuwait. He was involved in supervising many masters and doctoral theses, and he also served on various committees related to Islamic studies and education. Military Trial in Egypt: He was one of the forty Muslim Brotherhood leaders who were referred to an exceptional military trial by the decision of the President of Egypt in December 2006. In April 2008, he was sentenced to ten years in prison in absentia, despite being acquitted three times by the civilian judiciary. However, on July 26, 2012, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi issued a general pardon for him. Dr. Tawfik has extensive experience in preparing encyclopedias. He participated in the preparation of the Encyclopedia of Islamic Jurisprudence in Cairo and the Jurisprudential Encyclopedia in Kuwait. He also prepared the Encyclopedia of Martyrs of the Islamic Movement and the Encyclopedia of Doctrinal Terminologies in the Quran. He has written around forty published books and around thirty unpublished ones.
