صدرت هذه الرواية عن المؤسسة العربية للدراسات والنشر وتحمل عنوان شظايا فيروز، لمؤلفها العراقي نوزت شمدين، وعبر 286 صفحة يرصد الكاتب العراقي أزمة الموصل وسكانها والأيزيدين وما جرى عليهم، وما تركته الحرب التي شنها تنظيم داعش الإرهابي من ترويع وأهوال بنحو عام. الرواية التي رُشحت لجائزة البوكر 2018 تركز على قصة حب تجمع بين فتاة إيزيدية وشاب مسلم، وكيف تتدخل التقاليد لتعيق هذه العلاقة. البطلة فيروز تسقط في أيدي داعش، وهنا يبدأ الكاتب بتدوين أحداث الرواية، التي تعرض تأثير الحرب في نينوى والمنطقة المحيطة بها على الروح والمناطق الجغرافية. تركز الرواية أيضًا على الشخصية الرئيسية الحاج بومة، الذي كان يعمل موظفًا لتسجيل البيانات في الموصل، ويظهر في طيات الرواية معاناته خلال عقود من الزمن المليء بالحروب والنظم السياسية المتعاقبة.

Nawzat Salim Shamdin Agha, also known as Nawzat Shamdin, was born in Al-Faysaliyah district in the city of Mosul on August 1st, 1973. He completed his primary education there and obtained a bachelors degree in law from Al-Hadbah University College in its first session. He worked as a lawyer for eight years before leaving it and devoting himself fully to journalism. Unlike the rest of his well-known Sunni Kurdish family, Nawzat remained in Mosul while they were scattered during the past four decades or stayed in the city of Zakho in northern Iraq, which is the original homeland of the family. In the early 1990s, he began publishing small sections in Al-Hadbah newspaper and the weekly and daily newspapers in Baghdad. He started his career by writing poetry and then transitioned to the world of short stories. He wrote and published numerous stories in Iraq and abroad and participated in two editions of the book "Stories from Nineveh." He received honorary awards before publishing his true novel "Half Moon" in 2002, which marked his real breakthrough. After 2003, he worked as an editor in the newspapers "Wadi Al-Rafidain" and "Future of Iraq." In late 2004, he worked as a correspondent for Al-Mada Daily in Mosul and continued his work until March 6, 2014, before leaving with his family to Norway. He published thousands of news articles, reports, investigations, and interviews about Mosul in Al-Mada newspaper on a daily basis during those years, to the extent that he jokingly told his friends that he had written about every centimeter of his city and still felt he had not done enough. During that period, Shamdin also worked as a correspondent for the German website "Nachash" and later became an editor in Berlin in August 2014. He published dozens of stories and news reports on this website and also worked as a correspondent for the German economic magazine WPI, writing about the economic affairs and challenges facing Mosul between 2009 and 2011. He worked as an editor for "Iraqiyoon" newspaper and the director of "Iraqi News Agency" website. However, his most important achievement was the launch of the monthly literary newspaper "Thaqafat" with 36 pages. It was the first literary publication of its kind in Nineveh and welcomed all literary writers without exception, whether modern or classic, political or independent. Between 2004 and 2014, Nawzat Shamdin served as a member of the administrative board of the General Union of Iraqi Writers and Authors and won in three electoral cycles. Because of his journalistic work and his boldness in addressing issues, he faced three assassination attempts, two of which were imminent: the first on Al-Najafi Street in October 2013, and a few weeks later in the Qusiyat area north of Mosul city. Thus, he decided to leave with his wife and three children as a guest writer to the Kingdom of Norway, which opened its doors to him, granting him the freedom to write and travel. It was his great opportunity to present the cause of Mosul, which he personally adopted, as he traveled to European capitals speaking about the injustice it suffered and narrating the story of its destruction. He did so at the Capital Conference in Stavanger, Norway, the International Conference in Amsterdam, the Norwegian Mawlid Festival, a regular session of the Telemark government in southeastern Norway, and also at the municipality of the French capital Paris. He also toured Sweden, Finland, Germany, Denmark, Tunisia, and Turkey. As a journalist, Shamdin trained Iraqi journalists in developmental workshops in Istanbul, Turkey, and lectured at the High School of Journalism in Oslo, the Norwegian capital. In late 2014, Shamdin released the book "Awaiting the Ancient" which was the first resistance book against the occupation of Mosul by ISIS, distributed in the city on a limited scale. Prior to that, he had published a book of articles titled "Mosul in Beijing," and the UNESCO and International PEN organizations published a book titled "Story of a Survivor from Mosul" in English, which was a long interview he conducted with the famous American journalist Larry Simes, with the immediate translation by Basim Mardan. In 2015, he released the second edition of his novel "Half Moon" by Moment Publishing House in London. In the same year, he published his second novel "The Fall of the Vault" by the Arab Foundation for Studies and Publishing. These works were translated into Kurdish, German, and English.
